3 Million for 30 seconds

Since the Super Bowl is a little over a week away I thought that I would post something that has to do with it.
We all love or should I say most of us love watching the Super Bowl commercials and there has been many funny ones in the past based on your humor level. Here is last years top 10 (note I did not say that they all were good)

But why I am posting this, well I heard that this year for the Super Bowl that commercials will cost on average 3 Million for 30 seconds of air time. 3 MILLION!!, are you kidding me!!!! okay enough of that, what could you do if someone handed you 3 million, sure I know what I would do but really what would you do? I would pay off all my debt, buy a new car and yes even one for Sherry (haha). Then what? Would I give money to charity?; Would I give some to my Church? All of those things are good things and I am sure that I would do both but I digress.

I am writing this because we need to wake up. The reason that these products spend this kind of money is because we as consumers will buy their product. What could this country do with all that money. On average there is around 45 minutes worth of advertising done on the Super bowl, which comes to 270 million dollars just for the game. How does that sound, what could you do with that or what could this country do with ALL this money, I am not sure but I think we could really be rid of poverty in this country or at least be a great start and that is just for a 3 hour game on 1 day of the year.

Acts 20:35 “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Romans 12:13 Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

Romans 15:1-2 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.

1 Corinthians 10:24 Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

These are just some of the many verses that talk about the poor. Here is a thought, instead of putting our money into these products this Super Bowl year, let’s give it to the poor. What, you can’t do that? Why not? Just something for you to think about….

REflections

As I was thinking about what to write, I had just finished a devotion and it helped me with what I wanted to say.

First of all I hope that you all had a great Christmas and a Happy New year. As we flip a new page (out with 2011 and in with 2012), I hope that you have taken or please do take some time reflecting on 2011. Are you happy with the year in general or do you wish it was better? As you read below, maybe you were missing out on something and I hope that this year you find it and apply it. As a Student pastor it always breaks my heart when I see parents and teenagers struggle and the answer is right in front of them, so take time and start a fresh and see where God will take you on your journey in this life before it is too late.

Here was my devotion for the day

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:24

An unbalanced (or undisciplined) life will not be kind to us in the areas we neglect. The secret to living a vibrant and no-compromise faith is in the power of DAILY. Daily we are to come to God and renew our commitment and relationship. He will give us the strength to live daily for Him. Daily we can recognize His lordship in our life, and daily we will find the power to live for God. Here is a simple but excellent way to remember the truth and power of DAILY to use in the New Year.

Decide to Follow God Daily.

Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness (see 1 Timothy 4:7).

Adore and Praise God Daily. The Lord inhabits our praise (see Psalm 22:3).

In the Word Daily. The word is a lamp to your feet and a light for your path (see Psalm 119:105).

Love Others Daily. This is the message you have heard from the beginning. You should love one another (see 1 John 3:11).

Yahweh Reigns. The Lord reigns forever (see Psalm 146:10).

Here is a couple of questions that you can answer or at least think about

Read Psalm 118:24, and then write out how it applies to your life today. What specific steps can you take today to live out the power of DAILY in your life?

I hope that you found this devotion encouraging to you as it was to me. I would like to add a couple of my own comments at what I found through this devotion. As it says that we are to come to God and renew our commitment and relationship DAILY. I have noticed that if I do not come to Him daily that I do not have a very good day. I have to make a conscious effort everyday to make Him first. Yes I said a conscious effort, why did I say that? Because with all the “stuff” going on in my life daily that it is so easy to put Jesus on the back burner. I wonder how many of you feel the same way. The World has so much “stuff” in it and most of it is bad for you that keeps us from daily Life with Jesus.

My second comment is short and to the point. As I started out this blog with “Are you happy with the year in general or do you wish it was better?” I wonder how many people can honestly say you were happy? Was your walk with the Lord better? If you answer the same that you know what happened, you fell away from Him and how could that be better.

Please reflect on 2011 and share if you like, what He (Jesus) wants you to do in 2012 better than you did in 2011

And As I always I end with this,

God Bless and Go MAD

I am Back (Hopefully)

It has been a long time since I even been on my blog and even a longer time writing something. I do not make New Years resolutions but I do have goals that I give myself and so I have a couple of goals for me.

One goal that my wife and I was to lose weight. We were doing good for a while then Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years hit and well let me just say that I gained a lot of weight back that I took off (and gained rather quickly). So as New years is over we are starting back again. My wife and I do a weight watchers meal every Wednesday and put it on YouTube for others to see, it has been doing really well. If you would like to check out our channel then here is the site

The Second goal is to get back to writing. This goal hopefully will happen, it may not be as much as i have done in the past but at least one article a month at least. One of the reasons that this slowed down was the fact that I started vlogging my life and it took me away from this site. So I would like to do both and hope that it works out. So here is my first vlog (I meant blog) of 2012. Tomorrow will be first of what I hope to be a successful blog. Can you guess what it would be…..you are right it will be on Reflection.

God Bless and Go MAD (Make A Difference)
